Work Experience celebrate achievements

Bethany Campbell, a year 11 student from Frederick Gough School, achieved a full qualification during her time on work experience at SouthBank Training Ltd.

Bethany joined the SouthBank Training Ltd Scunthorpe team for one week in 2008 in an admin support role.
The placement provided Bethany with the opportunity to gain an insight into the apprenticeship scheme and gain additional IT tuition as an option.  Bethany made the most of this opportunity and within one day had completed all the practice tests and the majority of the final examinations. She completed the final examination the next day and gained the full New CLAIT qualification.

Other work experience news: Owen Thomas of St. Bedes Catholic School also achieved his full New CLAIT qualification during his work placement in October 2008.  Congratulations Owen!

Framework for Excellence survey

We wish to thank all our employers for taking part in the Framework for Excellence survey.
This important survey, newly introduced via the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), is part of a new Framework for Excellence initiative.  This framework will provide a new national performance measure to ensure high standards in all educational and training establishments.

The aim of the survey is to ensure that we can provide and continually improve on the services which employers deem most valuable, and in turn, respond to any changes in your needs as efficiently as possible.  SouthBank Training Ltd would like to thank you for your time and co-operation and are grateful for your feedback, which in all cases will remain anonymous.

Grimsby learners report for Voxx Magazine

Learners at the SouthBank Training Ltd Grimsby Centre were recently involved with the Voxx Magazine publication.

E2E learners Emma Howard, Leanne Lytollis, Danniel Leshone, and Apprentice Alex Sciacca reported on current issues that affect young people for the ‘Voxx Shout’ segments of the popular Grimsby based publication.
The winter addition saw their articles in print for the first time, and the issues of teenage drinking and street safety were high on the agenda for the Grimsby learners. Alex Sciacca and Emma Howard wrote informative articles relating to alcohol consumption and below features an extract from Emma’s report:

“The age for drinking is 18, but people are starting to think that  age should change. There is now a campaign to raise the drinking age to 21, rather than 18, and teenagers are starting to make their feelings clear about it. Most of them don’t think it should be changed and that it should stay the same.”
“Teenagers who binge drink are risking their own safety. Drinking in parks and on street corners is risky in itself, and by drinking more than their bodies can handle, they risk getting hurt or even dying. “

New Centres for Wider Training Success

With the opening of two new sites in Barton upon Humber and Scunthorpe, SouthBank Training Ltd expand their training opportunities to clients across the entire North Lincolnshire area.

Staff and invited guests enjoyed a buffet lunch at the opening of the new centre in Barton upon Humber.

Situated in the heart of Barton upon Humber, the SouthBank Training Ltd Vocational Centre opened its doors on the 25th July for its first Open Day, allowing invited guests to explore the new premises and discuss the range of development opportunities available to them.

The Grade 2 listed building, located on the High Street, is fully equipped with a professional IT suite and conference facilities to cater for the Entry to Employment programme, Apprenticeship programmes, Train to Gain and Commercial programmes and qualifications.

SouthBank Training Ltd Barton Centre

The opening of the Barton upon Humber site coincided with the opening of a new training facility in Scunthorpe.  The Barton Branch, in addition to the Scunthorpe Skills Centre and existing branches in Scunthorpe and Grimsby, has expanded the training potential across the North and North East Lincolnshire communities.  Individuals wishing to undertake further training or employers looking to improve the skills of their workforce are able to access a wide range of programmes and qualifications via one of the four SouthBank Training facilities.

The Barton centre will not only provide facilities for the E2E and Apprenticeship programmes, but will also offer a ‘stand-alone’ facility of training.  The ‘stand-alone’ training room facility with internet access, presentation equipment, kitchen and toilet facilities and disabled access all integral, can be booked for half or full day events with total exclusivity.

Star Business Interchange

Star Business Interchange provided an opportunity for four members of the SouthBank team to partake in work experience at various companies throughout North and North East Lincolnshire.

Involved in the Star Business Interchange were Clugstons, Crosby Community Association, Independent Batteries and Comet.  The placements provided staff with an up-to-date insight into industry procedures.

“It was a great opportunity to experience warehouse operations from start to finish within a large distribution company.”

“Spending a day at Crosby Community Association, assisting staff within their finance office, aided me in updating my skills with practical and up-to date knowledge with regards to the payroll procedures and relevant software applications.  This will aid my delivery in the associated aspects of the Level 3 Business and Administration NVQ allowing me to further assist candidates with up-to-date theories and practices.”
